Cocteau Twins
The Cocteau Twins are a Scottish band considered to be the pioneers of dream pop with the release of their third album 'Treasure'. The offering was laced with dense production effects and breathy vocals. The album is the template for the sonic, ethereal-laden sound that became dream pop. 'Aloysius' is considered by many to be one of best songs on the album.
Although Jesus and Mary Chain is quite a different band, you can still see the production ideas that were borrowed from the Concteau Twins and transformed into the more atmospheric sound that is dream pop. When you listen to Treasure you can also see how the album inspired a generation of bands including My Bloody Valentine who went on to launch the shoe-gazing genre with the release of their album ‘Lovely’. Another great song from Treasure is 'Amelia'
My all time favourite song on the album is 'Lorelei'. It is a song that makes you want to dance. I can't get enough of Elizabeth Fraser's vocals. It truely is a treasure.
The Concteau Twins were innovators and their greatest gift was their ability to inspire a multitude of bands across different genres: everyone from Napalm Death to Massive Attack and the Weeknd and for that you deserve to take an encore.
