The Stone Roses
The Stone Roses were a part of the Manchester movement in the early 1980s. They only released two albums before they disbanded but what an impact they had. Their sound really pioneered that fusion between indie rock, psychedelia and EDM. The first single from the debut self titled album really got the ball rolling. It was a song that just had everything. When I first heard this song I thought he was singing I wanna be a dog.
The Stone Roses debut album is considered by many to be one of the best English rock albums. Who are we to disagree. The album is full of classic songs that sound just as good today as when they were first released.
My all time favourite song is 'Sally Cinnamon' It was released around the same time as their debut album but sadly it did not appear on the album. Never the less this song, for me, is a classic.
Another song that I absolutely love is 'Fools Gold'. This song was put out six months after the release of their debut album. Like 'Sally Cinnamon' it did not appear on the album. The song was the band's first top 10 hit in the UK and it is, in my humble opinion, one of the band's best songs.
The Stone Roses were a band that generated a lot of hype that propelled the Manchester Movement onto the world stage and, for that, we say thank you.
